The Dansey’s Room

dansey's room

This unique room, built in the 1880s, at one time housed the dairy for the Doctor’s home. It is named after William Heywood Dansey, who emigrated to Port Chalmers in 1854 and settled in Oamaru. In 1855, he and some companions worked their way into Central Otago from Oamaru by way of Dansey’s Pass.

The clay bricks, from which the Dansey’s Room was constructed, were frequently brought down to Naseby from the Pass, by Chinese goldminers. We have subtly recognised the oriental heritage in this room by introducing an antique Chinese storage cabinet and bedside tables.

The super king bed can be made into two single beds if preferred. This room has its own access to the garden, a dressing room and a private, newly-appointed bathroom, with shower, heated towel rail and hair dryer. You will find an iron and ironing board in your room.
